CHORES CHORES

I had Dash and Sweetheart out in the front yard weeding the flower beds. I admit I let the flower beds go. The grass had made its way in to the beds and some were difficult to pull. I gave them both gloves and a few garden tools.
Dash has a talent to look busy but actually not do any work. Sweetheart and Dash both share a bedroom. Dash likes to do work as long as I can give it the appearance of FUN! If I can make any chore a game. WE are in business.
This is what happened this particular morning. It was about 10am and already hot. I needed the beds weeded and I would weed the other side. Dash and Sweetheart both started out energetic and happy. Then 20 minutes roll by and it quickly goes south. The task went from fun to work.

Dash begins to grumble, that he is doing more work than his sister. I know this isn't the case. Sweetheart begins to murmur. She believes she is working harder than Dash. For the love of MIKE! The sun is now full fledged over our heads. I am hot and now my temper is beginning to seethe. I have Sweetheart work on my side with me and Dash has to finish the remainder of the front flower bed, on his own.
OOPS!! The hazaards of working in your britches!

HE IS NOT A HAPPY CAMPER! Eventually, we end up finishing the front of the house. I feel good. I feel hot and exasperated but none the less I feel accomplished. I wish to instill these feelings to Dash and Sweetheart. I ask, " Aren't you proud of your work that you did?" Dash, "NO". "Oh well, Go take a shower so we can go to the pool."
Dash's personality has quickly changed. He is smiling, he is content. I would even go as far as saying he is GIDDY! Well, until the next chore.

I cracked up on the butterfly. Very clever and sneaky. So cute.

He is at least out there looking busy. I remember those days of yes and then a quick I'm bored. Weeding is one of my least favorites too. I can relate. Cute post. He is being taught well. And the pool is an awesome reward.

My kids get a kick out of looking at their baby pics with stickers over their oopsies! I have used butterflies, dragonflies, rubber duckies, etc. LOL

Why is it that they always have to be "even" in the amount of work they are doing. Foster Son and Manga Dork are really bad about this too. Usually Manga Dork IS doing more work, but he just can't see it. Over the summer I usually tire of the words "Thats not fair."

That pool looks so good.

Okay, I am dying about your comment about using DH gel and your manly men. Way to get me going. Thanks. LOL...

I love the hair on Dash. Isn't it funny how kids change the moods in a heart beat!! I just bribe my kids before hand, and during.

What a great idea! My weeding time is my time alone with ear buds in my ears. I usually try to sit in the shade. I just can't keep up this year though. I should get Connor out there to help and then take him too the pool. If I could get that great picture of the butterfly on his privates that would be super too!

What a great mom you are! Teaching them to work! Sometimes I am so lazy (tired of fighting them) I just do it myself! But, really in the long run that is NOT smart of me! Their poor wives... LOL

Ok, I saw your request to change backgrounds at least seasonally, opps...that reminds me to go change my underwear...but I don't know how to change backgrounds without changing my layout.

Will you do a tutorial?

I'm so glad that you don't have word verification, it's so nice.

The one that is horrible and I always get wrong is on Kelley Contemplates, our twilight friend English Teacher. Maybe I'm black/white color blind, do you think that is possible?

I cannot believe you read a 700ish page book in 5 hours AND while watching John and Kate Plus 8. You are AMAZING.

Teri said...

I always knew you were amazing, but really, truly, that just brings it to new heights.

Teri said...

It's quite heroic actually.

Alright. I best go read the quote of the day. Are you keeping up?

Okay Mother Goose--I had to remove my last comment because I used your name-- the audacity! Sometimes I just forget... Anyways thanks for all the comments on my blog. I actually look popular. I will probably be there on Friday night with Meredith. I think she maybe has invited others, but I don't know for sure. We might be at the baptism on Saturday-- we will see how the kids are... I have to prepare now to leave my kids into book heaven... :-)

Did you make a t-shirt for the Breaking Dawn party thing? Someone was thinking that you did. If you did I want to see a picture.

Dash sounds eerily familiar to the 8 year old boy living in my house!!

We had just about the same scenario at our house tonight! Yuck...me yelling, "do you know why we have this stupid garden...not for the food, not because the prophet said to, but so you children will learn how to WORK....so WORK...yes, it's hot and hard, but that's why they call it work!"

Oh, it's so hard sometimes.

I've got a funny for you ... when my son was about six, I dressed him in this cute Spiderman short set and took him in to have his picture taken. They had him set cross-legged. This was at Walmart so the proofs were on the computer where you couldn't really see anything. So I go to pick them up, and I pull out the 10X13, and hello! Yeah. That was fun.
