Rain on your wedding day

A post from my friend's blog had sparked a recent memory. It had rained a few days ago in our area. I never complain about the rain because we have been in a drought situation for over 2 years. I had just commented to Beauty that it would be horrible if it rained on someone's wedding day because you never plan for rain. It would mess your hair, make up, and possibly dress. Your guests would be busy rushing and trying to get out of the rain instead of lingering and staying longer. Rain tends to put people more on edge and a bit more frazzled.
She had countered all of my negativity with but it could make for some really great pictures. You could play off the reflections that the rain would give off the road, and she said you could get our reflection in a rain drop, and we could get some great pictures using white umbrellas. She had really thought this out, in the event it rains on her parade. But, the most interesting counter was when she said, "It would be kind of nice because it reminds me of the primary song, When I am Baptized." It would be an extra gift on your wedding day as you walk out the temple! Clean and pure. Perspective my friends perspective. If rain is my girl hopes for on her special day, I pray she receives that extra gift too! I look forward to the day that she will wear her THIRD white dress!

I love that song too, here are the lyrics. Lyrics and Music by Nita Dale Milner, Arranged by Joan Sowards
Please click here to Mechelle, she just recently put up a post about the rain and her son being baptized. They love this very song too! She is one of my favorite photographers as well!
I like to look for rainbows when ever there is rain
and ponder on the beauty of an earth made clean again.

CHORUS:
I want my life to be as clean as Earth right after rain
I want to be the best I can,
and live with God again.

I know when I am baptized my wrongs are washed away,
and I can be forgiven and improve myself each day.
CHORUS

I was so touched by Mechelle's post about the rain baptism too. And that song has never been more perfect.

Your daughter is a mini mom of your pizazz and strength. A very good thing.

I will go and link to your blog and Shaila.

We scored practically the same on WW blog quiz. That is interesting. I see a lot of common qualities in the two of us. For one we have fantastic kids! M

That is actually my very favorite primary song of all time! It's so precious and when primary kids are singing it...well break out the tissue!!

Your daughter has a great outlook on things! We could learn a lot from her.

It actually did rain very hard on my wedding day. It wasn't planned for, our BEAUTIFUL outdoor reception turned into an indoor "open house". The only thing that bummed me was no good pictures but we didn't have a fab photographer either so those shots Beauty mentioned weren't thought of. People thought it was a sign of bad luck but we been goin' strong for nearly 18 years now!

Happy are those who can always find that silver lining. What a great attitude.

WOW. Beauty is beautiful inside and out! I love this song. I usually mute my computer for music, but this time I kept it on. THanks for the lift in my day!

I just attended a wedding where it rained off and on throughout the day. It was actually kind of nice because we didn't have to worry about glaring sun and squinting in pictures and shadows.

Beauty's got an impressive amount of perspective. Good job with that one.

BTW, I was thinking of you and Warrior the other day, playing the sister in zion/army of helaman medly. What little I know of him reminds me of the stripling warriors. (I imagine that's part of the reason for his nickname?)

Great thoughts here. I thought I never wanted to have a winter wedding in Utah because of the cold and snow, but I did and I love my pics of us standing in the fresh white snow that had just fallen. And I loved Mechelle's baptism post and pics too.

What a sweetie! I wish I had that unique perspective of your daughter.

It rained on our day. We had to move our dream outdoor reception into the stake building. But I have to tell you, it turned out beautiful. And our pictures at the temple were so awesome because of our big black umbrella. Brides who saw our wedding pics at the studio wanted to duplicate the look and have umbrellas even if it wasn't raining- ha!

My wedding day was rainy and stormy outside in Dallas, TX, but my new husband and I didn't mind the thunder and lightening:) We didn't even notice!

I have been going through all your recipes. And I have some questions.. Do you Asiago in anything else other then the chicken wraps? Is it expensive & is it worth buying just for that?
And what the heck is Asiago? Where do I find it in a store?
Your Eggplant. Not a big eggplant person, but after reading your story & all that I'm like Ok I'll try it.. Just wish you were the one cooking it..
How do you tell a ripe eggplant?

So I want to make everyone of your desserts. They all look so good. Now I have no problem trying those & wanting to do that. But dinner - huh. I'm having anxiety about going to the store & tracking all this stuff down...

Bren's Life said...

Uh Huh - The chicken ring. That's that I had tried to make. But I forgot to look at your recipe the other night & just made up my own.
I used can of chicken, cream of mushroom, kidney beans & cheese... Yeah- wasn't a big hit at all... When I told my hubby last night I needed to find a picture of some gross food, he said too bad you didn't take a picture of your creation from last night.. My chicken bake!
And my son came in & saw Troy & started begging him to please make dinner! He made great fajita's...

The baptism songs is one of my faves and we played that song at both of my girls baptisms!

I thought rain on your wedding day would be bad. The gal who does my hair got married in August and it was an outdoor reception that started at 9p.m.(awesome idea.) SO it was awesome the whole day and when it got closer to the reception we saw one little cloud in the sky and we thought oh no! Please don't rain! Please don't rain! We ended up having a wild thunder and lightning storm for about an hour and then it down poured! We also found out that my crazy hair lady was praying for it! They like it!

It's so true!

It rained on one of my friends weddings. It was beautiful. The pictures were absolutely gorgeous. I cried harder seeing their wedding video than I ever did my own.

moral of the story -- it all works out!

Your Beauty is as wise as she is beautiful. I love rain. It reminds me of home, in the tropics where rain is welcome not "despised".. Beautiful post, Mother Goose. Beautiful song.

Hi, Didn't rain on my wedding day,
but I remember when I was in high school. I had to ride the bus and transfer to another bus. I hated the rainy days because it was no fun riding a bus wet. Then one day when I was about 16 I was in a very happy mood. I looked outside and it was raining. I didn't care.
I got my things and walked to the bus stop. Everyone was running etc. I enjoyed the rain. It was a warm sring day and the rain felt good. Yeah, I was a little soggy on the bus, but it didn't "dampen" my spirits. Didn't know any primary songs in those days but love them now.
oh yeah,...it rained on DD's wedding day while she was in the temple. When she came outside it was beautiful...no rain. We took pictures and then after we left the temple grounds, the rain returned.
I always heard a bride that is rained on is blessed.
