Meet my son, Dash a very informed very politically sound eight year old. From the very beginning Dash has been a Democrat and a supporter of Obama. Yes, I tried to hide the fact, I tried to down play his liking but on today he stands proud and ever so happy as his parents are a bit sullen, disheartened and wind out of their sails. I'm more apprehensive because I don't know what the future will hold and I don't know what this man will bring or take from our country. We have been a divided home. I tried to hide that fact as well. Where did I go wrong?? LOL.
As I awoke in the morning and went downstairs completely dressed.
Dash greeted me with a "Hi mommy".
I said, "Morning Dash, how are you? How did you sleep?"
He answered, "Good, Fine, and with a grin that spread like softened butter across his face, I heard, Guess who won?"
I knew what he was referring to and I tried to match his enthusiasm and that beautiful smile and replied, "Obama".
Despite my disguised face and heightened upbeat tone. He saw through it. Maybe, I gave it a little too much oomph or maybe not enough. Maybe, I just need to take acting classes. I have to say, I would not have been so kind or gracious had McCain won. I would have been all in your face. I learned a great lesson on how to be a gracious winner. Maybe, he could still sense my raw pain.
Mr. Incredible took Dash to the vote with him, yesterday. Dash was so excited I thought he was going to wet himself! It was a whole new world he was being exposed to. The line took about an hour and 45 minutes. They had a place where children could vote too. I wanted Mr. Incredible to take his picture doing everything. This phone called a BLACKBERRY doesn't have a camera on it??? WHAT!! It has everything else GPS,email, phone, but no camera?? Seriously?? WHAT UP??
Dash would at times chastise Mr. Incredible and I.
He would say, "What, over dramatic long pause, YOU are not going to watch the debates?" "How are you going to know who to vote for?" "We don't get the newspaper!"
He would be appalled on the verge of disgusted. We were forced to watched the debates up until his bed time and then once we were sure he was settled in we turned the channel. We felt like teenagers pulling one over on their parents. Every time there was something on the radio or television Dash wanted us to be quiet. I could see his big brain processing the information. Dash would question things that Obama and McCain were for and against. Obviously, he didn't understand the BIG FLAWS in Obama's or the Democratic views. Abortion and Gay marriages. I tried to explain abortion but it didn't comprehend well. I should have taken it to the Lord before I tried an explanation. I will definitely be more prayerful as we address this subject again, if he asks again. I never dreamed that I would have a conversation about what abortion was with my eight year old.
Dash would come home every day telling us something new about Obama. He made us do our homework. I could tell his teacher was a Democrat. Many parents of his friends are democrats. Because he was so informed I wanted to be sure that his information was correct.
He came through the door beaming, "Guess what? Obama won Scholastic and the Nickelodeon poll and our School poll!!"
I replied sarcastically, "OH, well there you have it, He won Nickelodeon, he's our next President."
I was joking but I thought he might be our next president. If this many children were talking politics at their dinner table there must be THAT many parents supporting Obama.
In honor of Dash's canidate win. I'm going to cook him a "democratic" dinner. I think I will serve him jack#$#. Oh, I mean roast butt. LOL.

ROAST BUTT! now THAT is funny!
and he is so cute! he sure looks like one happy camper!!!!
i bet he is so happy today and we know that all the kids will be talking about this election all day today! ♥
I knew your sarcasm would come in somewhere in you post.. You just crack me up.. Can you give me the recipe for Jack#@#!
I wanted to cry last night & what lies ahead for us now.
You have to admit that if he was watching the t.v. at ALL the spot light always was shining brightly around Mr. Obama. He is an eloquent man. It is totally possible that his teacher crossed some lines...
Its not your fault.
My kids all supported Obama too! But since I wasn't a huge supporter of McCain, they couldn't throw it in my face. :-)
I wasn't a huge fan of either. Too bad we didn't have better choices--oh well--what's done is done!!
Girl, you always make me laugh! I knew something had to be coming! LOL! Well, good for Dash to want to be involved! Even though he voted for the wrong guy! : ) God's in control and he's got our backs! xo
If you supported McCain at our school, the Obama supporters were very bullying. It was so stressful for these young kids this year. Mattie just cried in fear of the taunting she is going to get over their winner. But we had the best talk ever last night.
I think it is great that he is interested in the process though. We are raising a very strong generation. Are you going to make the roast tender or tough?
You rock girl.
Good for him to be involved. I think that is great. My kids were really into this election also. We were fighting the marriage prop here in AZ and we had to take a stand.
I think it is great to have the kids involved. It makes my heart hopeful for our future. m
Oh Chrys...your sarcasm always makes me chuckle.
I think it is great that younger generations are learning about our great democracy...now if we could only force them to believe as we the parents do!
Love hearing about your family!
I think it's great that he was so involved and cared so much at such an early age!
LOL about roast butt, that's funny!
Sometimes you have to look at their choices, and just shake your head. We'll blame it on his youth and the public school system. LOL! Dang it. I just don't want to have to homeschool these kids, but good grief, the crap they learn at school sometimes...
I'm with you!
Nice dinner choice! My son was exctied for Obama too. I think it is great to see the children learning so much about political process and starting that passion young. I don't remember it being like that when I was a kid.
Enjoy your dinner!
Roast Butt!!!! I LOVE IT!!! Well, I too am not a happy camper, BUT.. maybe this will hasten in the second coming, one can only hope
oY! well at least someone is happy. i have to admit i've been a poor sport about it.
have fun with that democratic dinner.
;)
It's just amazing how SMART some children are!!! What an awesome kid...I want one just like him! I on the other hand will boast about voting for Obama...:D
It's incredible to me that your sweet son was so in to this election. Even if you think his views need some readjustment, props to you for raising a politically aware child.
(And as far as I know, Obama/Biden have no plans to redefine marriage in the US Constitution. One small sigh of relief there.)
We were a divided famili.
My Little Lavi wanted Obamamamama to win.
Why you ask, because in her words 'He looks like a horse, and I love Ho'osi.."
Then I told her about abortion, and she asked me if it was like killing a horse to eat it?
I said excactly,
Her reply- Well now he looks like a horses butt...
No joke
We still are laughing right now about it.
OMGoodness!!!! That is SSSSOOOO funny!! Roast butt!!
I don't agree with teachers and celebrities trying to persuade young minds. I have to say that our household was for just one. We are all happy that it is over. But like you we wonder what this "winner" will bring or take from our country.
Thank you for a great laugh! Enjoy your dinner!! Dash looks extremely proud, that is priceless-even if you have to bite your tongue as you smile.
My whole family, all of us....I did do something right are true Republicans!!!! I am proud to admit that. I do think from reading the other comments that our children are being brain washed in school but that is another topic. You are sooooooooooooooooooooooooo funny and today for many reasons...I need a good laugh. We just have to leave this world in our Father in Heavens hands and just live accordingly...Although I fear for our children and the fact that if you do stand up against abortion, gay rights you will be taunted...they can believe the way they want but we can not do as we want....it is bad....oh well...another soap box to get on....I guess I am fired up today. We are just going to have to stand strong and hope we have taught our children well enough to do so as well.
the great thing about our democracy is our 'checks' and 'minus' system. We have 3 branches in our government that have to balance everything out. we have been so far off balance as of late that this new president will hopefully shake things up for our country. in all things, we cannot judge until we see what he does or does not do. yes, i am a democrat but i think that both parties can be excited (even if cautious) about our president elect.
I love your blog. Thanks so much for letting view and follow it. Thank you for your comments on my blog. I must agree with you, I love my dogs too. Though I must confess, that our rottie, Titan passed away in January. He was so much part of our lives, that I had to have pictures of him on my blog. It was so unexpeted when he passed away. My heart still hurts. I would love another rottie, but my husband says he's not sure if he wants another one, for the same reason you and your family didn't get another one. I would love to get a bull mastiff. I want a female so I can name her Stella. "STELLA...". I love your witch post and the picture of you two shaking hands. It made me laugh. Again, thank you for your comments, it put a smile on my face.
MG,
HOW CAN YOU BE SO CALM??? I am afraid of what Ashley would do or say if one of our kids came home loving a democrat! HA! The abortion thing is hard. We saw an abortion booth at the NC State Fair and Hannah asked, "Mom, what's abortion?" I said we would talk about it when she is older. I guess I would settle for that if one of my kids was a "childhood democrat." I think they have such a short time to be kids they don't have to know all those adult issues quite yet...
Roast Butt, will you post that recipe please??? LOL
My kids voted in school. They picked McCain. Too bad they weren't the real voters. My 12 year old was not wanting to go to school today. He didn't want all of his Obama supporting friends laughing in his face. I told him to tell them they won't be happy for long. But maybe I will be wrong. I'm trying to be optimistic. But it's hard.
I think it's funny how people are so excited for "change" and think we have to "wait and see". Just the things he's blatantly said he wants to do scare the crap out of every person that respects the constitution and values freedom. Obama's "wants" will turn the US into a place like Venezuela. Sound good dems? oy vay.
My kids stayed up till 12:30 watching our local results roll in. It's so important for kids to get involved. Thankfully, my older teens are able to understand freedom vs socialism and communism and were McCain supporters. Not that we loved McCain but we despise Obama and his nutty ideas. What out America. Make sure you have your food storage because this economy is about to get a WHOLE LOT WORSE. ugh!
I meant to say WATCH out America. sorry I'm still in an Obama induced depression here. lol
K can i tell katie first?? that even in your home democrates can be mormon. I did vote for Obama. he wasn't my first choice but he ended up being the better of the 2 for me. Dallon was also an Obama Fan and considering we live in the reddest state in the union im pretty happy my boy is heading cenerist right along with dear old mom. good luck with the roats bumm.
That is so cute...my son came home and when he found out who won...he got sad and said, "I voted for the wrong person"...I had to explain just because someone else one, doesn't mean it was the WRONG person! :)
LoL...way 2 go Dash!! I, know that Obama can talk a good game, and i'm almost positive he'll live up to that talk. But it must be so nice, to have Dash be so passionate about this Presidential race, kinda makes you think in about 25 years we could have our first..umm-hmm Hawaiian Democratic President..lol=)
Kalae! just hush your mouf right now!! I'm givin' you one stink look. rofl
Maybe! I know he has the makings for a great politician and that isn't necessarily a good thing! Out of all of my children he could do it! Let's hope not.
THAT my friend was SOOOOO funny. That is what I am talking about. You can serve it and giggle all through the the meal and never tell a soul.
Very funny.
You guys all wanted Obama?!?!?!
Oh Yeah I can admit it. I wanted McCain to win! I don't get why all the people wanted Obama. Well, at least Palin didn't make the vice presidency.
In my class we had a class election with both 6th grades. Obama had 26 poular votes and McCain only had 12!
Hey Mother Goose! I still want to win that $50! I could use some walkin around money since my dad won't give me my $11 back yet! Or you can just give me a donation.
How wonderful that Dash is aware of what is going on in the world. We have alot of mixed feelings about what has happened. I to don't talk much about politics. I kinda keep it personal. Will say I am sad about the out come!
I think it's great to bring kids and expose them to the whole voting process, especially when they're all fired up about it. I love the picture!
ROFL...ROAST BUTT!
You just kill me Mother Goose! I love what the kids learn at school! Just love it...NOT...And soon they will all be learing about socialism! Won't that be fun when he has to GIVE HIS FOOD AWAY! That'll teach him! LOL
I love your sarcasm :-) It's delightful.
What a sharp young man you're raisng! That's what we want our kids to be --- interested and involved in the affairs of their country.
Since we are confessing...my daughter voted for the very first time (she turned 18 last month) So yay for voting! But she voted for Obama...did I fail as a parent or what? :-)
Wow Dash was WAY more excited about voting than me. I just wanted to do my civic duty and GO home and sleep (I went at 6:30am)!! Good for him!!
LOL Roast butt! Too funny!
Utah is very shocked right now...yes, we have both parties, but we are a blue state in more than one way today!
OK, seriously loved the roast butt part.
Love the fact that he's so passionate about this. He's one bright kid.
My Haley is also happy that Obama won.
Yeah, I just keep thinking that he could possibly be the anichrist. (and I'm only half kidding here)
Did I say blue? It's one in the morning...can you tell? We are blue(sad) in a red state...never mind...Dash, your a cool kid for even noticing this election! I love your enthusiasm :)
I sense a future politician.
PLEASE PLEASE get through to him on his policies before he gets "of age" lol
My kids started out as Obama supporters, but the more we talked about the issues the became McCain supporters.
We are joining your crying session up here!! My kids were surprisingly aware of the election this year! I couldn't believe it! Your little guy looks so cute with the mo-hawk! Love it!
So if your son is already this involved in politics...When HE runs for President, I'm voting for HIM!!
how charming and isn't it wonderful the things our children can teach us if only we watch and observe them!
lol. You always make me laugh.
*hugs*
Oh the things your kids bring home with them . . . stray animals, rocks, trash, other people's opinions on presidential candidates.lol!
Good for Dash! You must be proud. Whether he thinks like you or not, he thinks! That's great. I see people force their kids to like what they like and it makes me cringe. I tried to be neutral to my daughter on the presidental candidates and it turns our we were on opposite sides, but I never let her know. That was tough.
