I had to sit in a defensive driving class for FOUR hours! I hadn't had a speeding ticket in over 10 years! Major bummer but I figured I was let off on my previous crimes that I definitely sucked this one up, THAT and I was guilty. I was speeding. I was running late. I just hate that I got a speeding ticket! It's like pissing money right out the window! Major wedge in my underwear of life!
(the guy in the front row, speeding 20 over, over all man, ran a stop sign on a country road, at 2am, he thought no one was around), and girl friend is a nurse, who was speeding, 20 over.
So, the officer told me that instead of going to court and paying my ticket. I should take this class for 4 hours and not have my insurance go up or have any points. I told him that my insurance shouldn't go up because I have not had a ticket in almost 10 years! and I didn't think one little ticket should cause my insurance to go up. But, he pretty much insisted. So, I enrolled. I was ashamed! I thought I would be the only one in the class, until I entered a classroom of 40 other traffic offenders and in the next class there were another 40 offenders!
The officer teaching the class had us all introduce ourselves and share our offenses and say if we thought we were guilty or not. I said if I didn't think I was guilty I wouldn't be sitting here. I would have my own lawyer appear in court. Like duh...
The class was actually interesting and I appreciated it and definitely will drive better. I don't just set out and speed all the time! I am the worry driver about will your dog or child run out in front of me. I would never want to be responsible for accidentally killing someone. I drive responsibly. The class did make me cry a few times. Just so sad. Mr. Incredible hates when I read about things or learn things because then I get a bit fanatical about it. (whatever, deal) LOL

Glad you got something out of it.
I haven't had to do this (knock on wood) but it would drive me crazy to waste 4 hours.
I love that you told us what the other people did. Overall guy could be any guy in Idaho. ha ha
Reminds me of the time when I had to go to a class on a Saturday. Totally sucked, and it was for 8 hours!!!
I hate to admit that I have been a speed demon for many years now. But had the same humbling experience, which I shared with my hubby. We had a date night at traffic school. I learned so much, that it has helped me be a better driver.
My husband is a speed demon, and I am always nagging him about it. I'm such a molly.
4hours...yuck!
But it sounds like you had the right attitude and took something from it.
I got my first a ticket a few years ago and went to traffic school. I learned so much and am a much better driver for it, actually. I think about the stuff we talked about there all the time, and understand the WHY for a lot of the traffic laws -- not just speeding. In fact, I still speed most of the time. (Who doesn't go 7 over on the freeway?!) but am much more aware of following distances, signals, being nice vs. being safe, etc.
