Meet one of our two pets! This is Honey! My daughter Beauty was in the 5th grade and at the end of the school year her teacher was giving away GERBILS!!! Ughh, they are just rats to me! They had been taking care of them all through the school year and Honey was one of 4 siblings. Beauty begged and begged to have one. My first couple of answers through the week were no. She was relentless however, and wore me down. (obviously) The last 2 days came before school would be out for the summer and she was panicked because her friends were taking gerbils home and she wasn't and she wouldnt be able to get one if we just didnt hurry and get a case for it to travel home. She begged! she said if we got the gerbil we wouldnt have to get a dog until the gerbil died! (anyone, see where this is going?) Mommy guilt kicks in and I wanted her to be one of the "privilleged" children to be able to have a gerbil and the idea of NOT having to get a dog was very tantilizing! Sure! How long do gerbils live? Three years! Great! let's get a gerbil! In enter Honey into our lives and hearts! I may not have wanted her or liked touching her but I still wanted to give her the best life that a gerbil could possibly have. I bought her all the fun toys, houses, wheels etc, and food and water bottles. She was QUEEN of the gerbils! She went from being with a family of 8 to just herself. I thought she was sad and lonely so we looked into bringing a playmate with her but they were all given away! Poor Honey, but she quickly adjusted and the children had her out of her tank daily. So much, that I even began petting her and then eventually holding her. I can hold a RAT! In fact, she isnt even a rat anymore. She is so cute and cuddly and I like to hold her for a bit. She is sweet! However, she should be on her last leg but she looks like she is going strong. I told Mr. Incredible, that she was suppose to die already and she is living on borrowed time. His reply back to me was, "Mother Goose, all of our animals live far past their expectancy. She is the easiest pet to own. All you have to do is change out her bedding once a week or every two weeks and she eats like a mouse! LOL, her bag of food cost like $10 a month, if that. She even has a ball that she is put into so she can roam through the house. Honey, happens to drive dog absolutely crazy! He just wants to play with her! and he is so jealous!!! He will sit and watch her play in her tank and whine and cry and moan because he just wants to "play".
