Kekoa, means courageous and brave in Hawaiian. Well, we have 170lb dog who does not live up to his name in the least! He will be celebrating his 2 yr old birthday, soon and he is very much a BIG OL' PUPPY! He is afraid of his own shadow and is pretty skittish over everything. He is an English Mastiff. Mastiffs average weight for a male is around 200lbs-220lbs. Actually, he is just now getting to be a little more brave. Kekoa was a Christmas gift 2 years ago from HOHO! Yes, Santa dropped him off early. What happened to if we get this gerbil we wont HAVE to get a dog until she dies?? Well, two Christmas' ago, the plea from all 4 children were " WE WANT A DOG!! WE will do anything for a dog. All we want for Christmas is a dog, and you can take all our presents away and not get us anything but! Really?? hmmmmmmm..... In enters our hair shedding, dog drooling puppy. Actually, he didnt shed or drool until he turned a year old. Their life expectancy is only that of 8-10 yrs, but with our pets, He will probably live until he is 14 or 15 yrs. If there was re-incarnation! I would definitely one to come back and have myself or my family as a my owner! The dog is one of the family. He is HUGE, he has no idea of his size. This breed is very sensitive and you can not yell at it, they traumatize easily. WHAT THE HECK, is it doing in our family?? I yell! We have raised him so differently than our rottweiler and even our children! Our children get yelled at and spanked. yet, the dog doesn't??? Something is seriously wrong with that! LOL, No comments if you are a parent who doesn't spank. This is MY BLOG and I own it! The dog has been very mischievous and has been spanked on his big ol' bottom! YEP! He pouted and in the corner he went and he stayed forever and it took a long time to get him to come back out. It was one swat on the butt and a yell! We definitely should have had this breed before we had children. Maybe, we would be a few steps closer to heaven instead of Hell. (thank goodness, for repentance) Truly, said with all sincerity!. Anyways, Koa follows me all over the house. Even if I go to the next room and he can see me, he is up and right next to me. He follows me in the bathroom. He can not stand to be more than 5ft away from me. The imprint very quickly. So, if you put him out the front door as a puppy, he absolutely will HATE to go out the back door when he is grown. Lessons learned from a dog. Consistency, consistency, consistency!! I love him. He starts off at night on our king size bed and Mr. Incredible gets irritated that the dog has more room than he and then Koa begrudgingly moves to the floor. HE has tantrums every time we leave the house. We must put up the trash, we must put up remotes, shoes, and carpets. He will tear the house apart and no matter how many times you let him out, he will poop in the house too. I have found that if I spend and extra 10 minutes with him, walking him, brushing him or just sitting with him and petting him and talking to him that we dont have these episodes of a destroyed house. BUT, who has 10 minutes to settle like that before you have to leave?? We are always tight and stressed for time. He did have a kennel but he outgrew it. We have tried blocking him off but he jumps it, pushes it over or eats it. Picture the dog in Turner and Hooch. (but he is much cuter) I am glad that he has come to be with us! He loves the children so much. Dash and he were so small together and then Koa just got huge! Dash will ride Kekoa and inorder to make Koa run faster, Sweetheart will throw a ball or stick and Dash will be on Koa's back using his collar to hold on to. He looks like he is riding a horse! We love the breeder who we purchased him from. She has become a close friend and she always takes care of him when we have to go on long trips!

I want a dog like that!!! He is beautiful. Maggie was looking at this with me and she went crazy...she is a dog lover.
Hi Heather, He really is a great dog. His breeder lives in Ashville, NC. This dog tends to shed less if he is well excercised and walked. He drinks A LOT of water. I wish we had trained him to eat in the garage. They are called the gentle giants. I will post a puppy picture of him and a picture of his "uncle".
Thanks for the comment. Chrys
My step cousin married a guy named Kekoa. I've only met him twice in the 12 or so years they have been married. His relatives are in Utah, but has lived in Hawaii. He doesn't look native Hawaiian but is Hawaiian, if that makes sense. They tried to live in the main states for a while but he couldn't deal with it. I've never been to Hawaii so I don't know why it is different. My husband says he likes to visit, but loves Utah. I guess it depends on where you are from.
