Birthday Bash

We have been pretty busy preparing all week for Warrior's big birthday bash. He has invited over 200 students and more than likely they will all show! We are doing a Hawaiian theme. Normally, parties of this magnitude does not phase me. However, Warrior had only decided that we would have a party like this last weekend. Mr. Incredible has been scrambling ever since. The perfectionist in me went straight to shut down mode. I was upset that he would want to throw a party like this in a matter of a week. We still have our busy schedules to get through. I was scheduled to work this weekend. I scurried around and found people to cover my shifts. Mr. Incredible saw no problem with the time frame, so this is going to be Mr. Incredible's baby.

I love to plan parties and plan them to the smallest most intricate detail. I am very meticulous about planning a party. I imagine and walk through everything from the minute you step in the door to the atmosphere, music, food and decorations. My brain has literally closed down. It is the perfectionist. If I can't do it perfect than I won't do it at all. They have bought the food, done the music and have the drinks. I will do some of the decorations.
On Friday we had a huge birthday bash celebration for Warrior. The invitations were store bought!(ugh) WE quickly rented a hall and concentrated on food and music. Spencer had an aloha theme. On such short notice, it was more a "white" aloha party. Nothing terribly authentic and we graced our guests with those cheap plastic leis. OH WELL! Thankfully, they are high school kids and all they care about is being with each other, dancing and food. Basically, in that order too. I made a cd of pictures of Warrior from when he was young to present and set it to music. Mr. Incredible brought a projector home from work so we could display it on the wall while the kids danced. WE also had a microphone set up so people could say things to Warrior through out the night. 2 of Warrior's friends ended up playing DJ for the rest of the night and they did a great job. They had some chatter going on in between tunes. They played the cha cha slide. I LOVE THAT!

We downloaded music from their ipods and brought my speakers, woofer and transmitter to the gym! I have to brag here on my goods! THE SOUND SYSTEM was AMAZING!! I was worried having a large carpeted gym and 200 kids bouncing around that my stereo system would not be enough. IT WAS plenty and then some. You could hear it rock outside the building and in the parking lot. I seriously am thinking about renting and advertising myself out. Had we not had our own sound system they would have charged us $75 an hour just to use their speakers. They didn't have to do anything. WE still would have had to come up with the music and run it. I thought it was highway robbery. You turn your speakers on, we plug our ipod in and you charge us $75 an hour? YEAH, NOT!

We had hot finger foods, chips, pizza, tons to drink and cake. The only adults were Mr. Incredible and I and one of the staff from the church building we rented. Mr. Incredible and I worked our feet and fingers to the bone. WE pulled it off but were terribly exhausted the next day and a little sore. I am so happy we were able to do this for Spencer. I look forward to celebrating his graduation. There will probably be two to three times as many people because we did not invite family or church friends.

I wish I had pictures to share of the evening but I was too busy re-filling the tables with food. WE had it decorated really cute. The tables were wrapped with raffia to look like a hula skirt. The center pieces were pineapples and balloons and the buffet tables had a bamboo runner down the middle with some other island accessories. People were still coming through the doors at 11pm because they were just getting off work. Sorry, we had to close the party down by 11:30 so we could be out by midnight. Happy Birthday Warrior! WE were glad we could do this for you!

That sounds like quite the party! I can't imagine putting all of that together in just a week and getting through the night itself. I hope he knows what great parents he has! Happy Birthday!
