Christmas SHOPPING

I have successfully finished my Christmas shopping where I am happy and satisfied. Everyone is bought for! The only gift I have yet to purchase is for my MOM! She is the hardest person for me to buy for! She has everything but uses nothing! I could buy her something nice but she won't use it. She will use what she already has. She has a closet full of nice beautiful clothes but she wears hand me downs from others. Who frankly, most of those clothes should be burned. She has the finest kitchen gadgets and pots but she chooses to use her mother's mothers pots because they have sentimental value. She has a huge jewelery armoire filled with earrings, necklaces and rings for every occassion and every holiday yet she wears her beautiful wedding set. My mother is a minimalist. Which is good. She is giving. She would go without to make sure you have exactly what you need! She is the most giving person I know.
I want to give her something that would mean a lot to her. Something she needs but doesn't know it. She absolutely loved pictures I took of her dog last Thanksgiving. He died this year and she was heart broken. He had some sort of health condition.

I will be spending the rest of my days wrapping presents and then packing because we fly out to NY on Christmas day. We have so much to do! Who is the hardest person for you to buy for, and what do you get? Any suggestions what I should get for my momma!

Just got her a Scentsy.. Can't go wrong there... Funny, my mom is the same way, infact, last time I was back there, she still had my last years present sitting on her kitchen floor, not being used...

I never get anything.. why?

Tongan husband really doesn't get into it... he loves Christmas, Just not the presents.. he loves to buy for our children, family, not me.. hmmmmm true love? True Tongan....

I like to get magazine subscriptions for people that are hard to buy for. It is the gift that keeps on giving month after month all thru the year! Good luck!

I do the magazine subscription too! That way, worst of worst happens, she has some toilet paper!! :)

I suggest framing a picture of the puppy or maybe even getting her another puppy. Or donating to a charity for puppies in the puppy's name. Something for the puppy.

Just a thought. The hardest to buy for in my best friend Mychel. She is a very busy person but don't need or even want much! So hard!

Sounds like you are right on schedule hun! Say hello to my home NY for me, ok? And bundle up!!!

For your Mom, a mother's ring? A family collage?

I am in the exact same boat. My mother. What to do with her. It is so frustrating. She wants nothing of course. She needs some 72 hr. kit items. I think that might be my resort. Not too pretty though. Good luck Goose.

there are sites where you can professionally bind your pictures into a book, with or without captions, etc.

I make me mom a calendar every year. I put photos I have taken of my kids on the different months. She has about 20 of these calendars now and that are priceless. Just an idea. You have such beautiful photos, it would be wonderful. Merry Christmas. m

Does she read? Or listen to music? Favorite movie? We are in the same boat with my Father-in-Law. Impossible to buy for! If he doesn't have it, he doesn't use it or need it.

My dad is usually the hardest person for me to for. I usually get him something that he can use while camping.

Maybe, if your mom reads, you can buy her a book.

Sounds like you have half of it figured out already - frame the pictures of her dog! I personally feel you can't go wrong with family picutres - expecially pics of your kids. (That's what I did for our moms.)

Ensign subscriptions are a great idea. If you're close to a church bookstore, the book "The Peacegiver" is a book EVERYONE should read. I didn't know I needed it till my mom gave it to me. Does she like to go the movie theater? Those kinds of gift cards (or to favorite restaurants) are always fun to get. Especially if they normally wouldn't spend money to go out to eat or to a movie.

Good luck and travel safely!

Ok, to add to my delima! These have all been great suggestions. I have done them.

LAST year for Christmas I made a picture collage of their dog. I took the pictures at Thanksgiving and did them for Christmas '07.

They already have every church subscription. she doesn't do any other magazines.

She absolutely does not do the internet. I am lucky that my mom is able to open an email. She doesn't even reply back via email. She calls!

I suggested another dog but they are not ready at this time for another pet.

I like the calendar idea but we did that and for her birthday I gave her a digital chip of all of our pictures. They do not do movies. They buy every dvd movie out there.

A few years ago my brother and sister and I went in and bought them a HUGE big screen tv! Then last Christmas they bought another HUGE flat screen HD and sound system. It's shweet! They recently bought BIG furniture for the front room. Last year I also redecorated downstairs bathroom and one of their living rooms with new towels, rugs, and then throw pillows, blankets etc. and did their upstairs bathroom!

Maybe, I should work on their bedroom?

Is it clearer how difficult this is? They have a navigator, fairly new they bought that a year or two ago.

Yay for you! Sounds like a great Christmas is in store!

My hardest to shop for is my hubby. I am seriously considering a gift card or cash this year - that's how bad it's been in the past :D

I am going to sound oddly off subject, but have just gotten caught up on your blog...and I just want to tell you that I love your family pic. You are all so beautiful. Even Mr. Incredible, who looks just like his brother (bless him).

Maybe she would like a memory quilt? One with all the pictures of the family on it????

My inlaws are the most challenging people I buy for. We often just get them gift certificates to eat out.

It's too late for this year but I have the perfect thing you can give your Mom next year. A couple years ago we (my 4 sisters and I) put together a memory book with pictures and stories from our childhood. We called it Tales from the Nielson Sisters and my Mom counts it as one of her most prized possessions. She cried everytime she looked at it for days.

She STILL cries when she reads it now. It's partly a tribute to our folks and partly a collection of all the crazy stuff the kids did growing up. It took some time and effort but it was so worth it.

This year we gave my Dad a book with many of the kitchens and cabinets he's built over the years. We did it so he can show clients but realized about half way through we were really documenting his work so our own kids can appreciate it.

The hardest person to shop for in my circle of "givee's" is definitely my mother too.

She now gets cash.... which is funny because I get money from HER!!

So sorry to hear about your momma's dog. That is a wonderful picture.
I would agree, my mom is hard to buy for also. I would love to just give everyone gift certificates and be done. Let them get what they want not what I think they need or "might" like.
Merry Christmas!

That's how my hubby is. I never know what to buy him, because he'll never say & he doesn't like $ spent on him.
Would your mom like a puppy or a dog already trained from the pound?
What about the kids make her a box & then you each put a letter to her in it & express your love & appreciation to her. Share your favorite memory with her.
I am not done shopping. Yikes!!!

MG, wow...that's a hard one! How about cold hard cash!?

My hardest person to buy for is, the "diva"!! She can, and sometimes does, buy herself WHATEVER she wants!! It is SO frustrating trying to buy her something!!

It's so hard to buy for people like that! And I have no suggestions. Good luck, hope you have a very Merry Christmas!

New York!? Fun! Never been...is on my wish of places to go!
My mil is very hard to shop for because they have a lot of money and anything she wants...she gets...sooooo I make cards for her to send out for birthdays and such. Very lame and practical because she likes to send cards to people...so I make them and she gets to say that she made them!

Does she read? I love giving books. Flying out on Christmas? Is that because not many are flying that day? We're planning a day trip into NYC a few days after Christmas.
