Solomon Family Reunion

Every year on the weekend of the 4th of July the Solomon Family always return home back to their roots to Douglas, Georgia.
They have been having family reunions since 1982! Pictures have been taken each year and some years we have had them in Atlanta due to weddings where the entire Solomon Clan would gather in the Atlanta Temple and celebrate. I tell you there is nothing better than family!!

We stay at the Coffee County lodge and we all sleep in two huge rooms with over 36 beds. The children lay on matts all over the floor and some choose to rent private cabins for sleeping and join us in the main lodge for meals.

There is always fresh fruit, vegetables and tons of food! The kitchen always has food pouring out the doors waiting to be consumed by the mass.
New shirts are designed every year.

WE always have boiled peanuts.

Fresh sliced peaches.

Homemade ice cream.

Home grown watermelons.

and caramel cake. Sorry no pics!! It doesn't last long enough for a pic! WE all load up and go to the high school for a great firework show!

On Sunday we always have our own sacrament meeting and testimony meeting. This year due to General Authority talks we have chosen to forgo the sacrament meeting portion and just have a testimony meeting.

After a wonderful dinner of ham and all the fixings we always always gather for a group picture. Each family from the original Solomon brothers and sisters, which were FIVE, chose a color for all of their children and grandchildren. So that we could see how each family has grown each year.

This is Bennie Solomons' Clan. He was the oldest brother of the Solomons. My husband
is his son. He sadly passed away before we were married of cancer.

In one year the Solomon Clan has grown by 13 babies!! Each year babies are added!
There were 31 Solomons' missing this year!! and over 75 in attendance! If you happen to know anyone of the Solomon gang then you will know that the PRIDE runs loud and strong no matter what part of the continent you live on. Now, put them all together under one roof and you are guaranteed non stop days and nights of laughter, good fun, long stories and a good time! We are looking forward to next year! c-ya then.

Your post totally made me home sick. I love it when our family can get together. I just don't know why I have to be the one to live the furthest away.

I am glad you had such a wonderful time.

This is the coolest!!

I luv what you said "There is nothing better than family"

I thought my little crowd was a lot of people over the fourth..Unbelievable, that so many could gather. That's a tribute to your family.

Boiled peanuts? I have never heard of that. Loved the t-shirts.

Great ideas for all of us!

I think I have "Solomonitis fever"! What you have is very catchy..

Unfortunately this year I was not able to go (did spend the day with dh though so it was not a total loss) The shirts are a great idea and I bet it is fun to see how each group changes each year! Oh, I loved this post and it brought back such memories of cherished reunions at the lodge where we too would hold sacrament meetings and testimony meetings. we usually had bishopric members. Did they ask us not too? We were in Virginia and I didn't hear all the talks and haven't read each of them yet. They are the best family bonding meetings ever!
We were trying to go back to a large church owned lodge by Jackson Hole Wyoming again this next year for our reunion. Mom is expecting her 50th great which will be our 12th grandchild. Her family has reached 98 members now:-) Isn't it grand! Thanks for sharing:)

Sadly our family reunions stopped several years ago due to lack of attendance.

It's great to hear that your family reunions just get bigger and better!
