Look Who's a Bear

Mr. Incredible is painting the bear paw on Dash's face. Each of the colors and markings are specific and have meaning.

Dash has moved up from being a wolf to a Bear. Rrrrrrrrrrroar!! The boys had their ceremony and it was one of the best I have been too. It has been almost 10 years since Warrior pinned my collar and with Dash this will be the last years that I will be pinned. I remember so vividly when Warrior pinned my collar. He was so cautious and apprehensive that he would stick me. On the contrary, Dash was completely opposite. There was no trepidation in his movements. I was taken back by his matter of fact, come hither attitude. Thoughts raced through my mind as to why?? Was Dash unconcerned because he knew he would not STICK me? or was he just unconcerned if he did stick me??

Dash did it perfectly, he pinned me twice and thoughts of adoration just gushed through my mind! My little boy is growing up and he's doing a great job. I love that we have specific programs like this to help shape and form boys into great men.

A note to mention, My Dad, my brother, and Mr. Incredible and his dad and brothers were not Eagle Scouts. They are all great men. Warrior did everything required to be an Eagle Scout even had his project but fell short but not completing it by his 18th birthday!! TOTAL STINK! To come so close to do all that was required yet still fall short. Football took precedence. I suggest becoming an Eagle Scout when you're 14 or 15then you won't have all the pressures of your senior year to get in the way.

What a neat ceremony! Love the face painting and that there are meanings behind it.

I am experiencing my "baby" doing things that will be the last time one of my kids do it. I still can't believe all the diapers are gone!

I'm a Bear leader. That is a fun age. I've never seen the face painint before. What a great idea...

My 16 year old got his Eagle at 15. My 17 year old has yet to do his project. He has 6 months left...He is still a great kids, but it is advantageous for job applications, college applications and later resumes. That's what I keep telling him anyway.

Some people think the Cub Scouting tradition is silly. Not to Wolves, Bears, and Webelos. Steve and I taught Wolves 2 years and Webelos for 1. The whole 3 years Kass was in there. I understand the program. I know parents are pretty much in charge of the boys earning their arrow points, sport's pins, belt loops, etc, during Wolves and Bears, but leaders are more so in Webelos. Kass got his Arrow of Light. We did all the face painting and ceremonies for our scouts. I'm not a silly person so the cheers just about did me in but are necessary. Kass was 14 when he got his Eagle scout project finished, but I didn't realize it took a whole year to write a one page paper on what he did, how he did it, and what it taught him. The writer that he is, a year is about right for Kass. He became an Eagle Scout at 15. I totally agree they need to get them before sports, girls, jobs and such take over. I feel the same about the Young Women Medallion. They tried to tell us that Brie would stop coming if she got it early and I used Scouts to back me up. Now I guess they like them to get those early to. Being and Eagle Scout opens many doors. Colleges and businesses like Eagle Scouts. Many Forbes people are Eagle Scouts. Kass automatically had Rank in the Military for being an Eagle Scout. They figure if they work that hard as younger men, they deserve to begin at a rank than those who don't earn them. He had no idea at the time that it would become important to him. Our Senator's and Governor sent him letters congratulating him. I'm sure they do if for all. All of Steve's family are Eagle Scouts. None of my family are. We have friends who don't let their boys get their drivers licenses until they get their Eagle. Congratulations to your BEAR!!

That is awesome! I totally agree with you on having them get it before they get older...they just get to busy and their work load is bigger!
That is awesome!!
Hey question for you...I am flying in an airplane on Thursday and I was wondering if I can bring fingernail polish in my carryon?

Woo Hoo! I'm so proud of Dash for doing the hard work to advance.

I grew up in a family of girls so having this experience with my son, Logan, last year was awesome. I shouldn't have enjoyed it so much though because now they've got me helping with the wolves! Ack! I know nothing about boys and Scouting but I guess I'm going to learn.
