St. Louis trip

We flew out to St. Louis this weekend. We flew when Charlotte experienced its first winter snow fall. We left the next day. It was only Mr.Incredible, Dash and I. The girls insisted they stay and enjoy the white blanket. The three of us flew first class and Dash enjoyed being seated in his posh leather seats, eating multiple snacks given to him freely and sipping his drink. He pretty much talked non stop for our 2hour flight. He really enjoyed being the "only child".

He especially enjoyed being the only child when we arrived to our very nice hotel room where he got a queen size feather bed, pillow and comforter all to himself. I was a bit jealous that he got to sleep in the bed by himself. I was thinking we should have opted for the king size room and had a scuzzy roll away brought in for him.

He enjoyed choosing restraunts to eat at and having his dad and I all to himself. But, by the time the next day arrived which was only 7 hours later; Dash was starting to double think a few things.
He began to bore quickly and staying in a hotel room with a very active nine year old boy is not fun. So, we decided to head down to the pool!

He enjoyed this for about 30 minutes and then he looked at me and said...

"I don't like being the only child." "I miss Sweetheart and Beauty." and then my heart melted! He has been so good and it was good to spend some one on one time with my baby. Sometimes, he gets lost in the shuffle. But, I'm so grateful that he finally realized the joy of having siblings truly is. We got dressed and walked a block to Starbucks and he kicked my tail in chess and we both sipped a tall french vanilla hot chocolate while he ate a brownie and I had a pumpkin spice loaf for breakfast. All along my heart yearned for his siblings to be there with us too.

And after an exhausting productive day of searching for homes, finding areas we liked and attending TWO wards we closed the day with this beautiful sight and with a strong realization that God has brought us here, he has seen us through our storm and has blessed us with so many wonderful opportunities and privilleges.

We have been made humble and as putty in his hands. St. Louis was a wonderful trip. The people are so genuinely kind and as skeptic as I am, I could not find ONE BAD THING about it!! As we were searching for homes we walked up to the house and they were moving out. They happened to be moving to CHARLOTTE, NC!! He is the Panther defensive line coach. He and his wife welcomed us into their home and although their home was beautiful, it didn't offer the backyard that we are looking for. That talked with us, befriended us and we stayed over an hour. WE met another couple and they too welcomed us into their home, without a moments notice and showed us not one but two beautiful homes that they are looking to lease out. She can not decide which house to live in. After seeing both homes, I understand her delimma. Both of her homes are in our top 3. Do mid western families do this? They take people in off the street, without any notice after the sun goes down and show them their home with dirty dishes in the sink, laundry on the floor? Truly well loved and well lived in homes! Never in a million years would I allow complete strangers to enter my home, after dark, without any notice and then end up leaving as if we were Best friends! Two times, a fluke perhaps, but guess what?? It happened a third time! I kept thinking there was some sort of catch. But, people everywhere from the gas station attendant, to church members, to people at walmart.

I think I have found my little PROVO! and for the record, I love PROVO! I've always wanted to live in Utah again and the light bulb is going off to why Missouri is the place of Adam-Ondi-Ahman! Thank goodness, I won't have to walk too far!

So glad you had a good experience! We have lived in the Mid West a couple of times, and I have never found kinder, friendlier natives! :) I hope you continue to find blessings as you move-now back to packing and real life, right?

Though Dash missed his sisters, I'm sure that is a trip he will remember forever. First class? I totally would remember that trip forever! I would invite you guys into my home with dishes in the sink and laundry on the floor, but I've known you for years and you know my house is sometimes clean (cause you've seen pictures :) But strangers, um no! It sounds like a wonderful place. Sean's little bro served his mission in Missouri. I'm glad you had a great trip! xoxox

I'm from Kansas, and that really is what it's like in the midwest. People are so warm and trusting. You'll fit right in! And I'll bet that St. Louis will be a suburb of Zion! Prime real estate!

What an adventure..I love that Dash got to be with the 2 of you..but how cool for him to miss his family.

I love that people were kind. America is a great place. Soemtimes we need reminding of the goodness around us rather than all the crap!

Can't wait to see your decision of a home. I sense the Lord is with you all the time.
love ya,
sue

Both of my daughters went through a time of wanting to be only children. My kids are so close and grow so the older they get. It didn't take long for Mikele to say she didn't like to be home because it was so quiet and she didn't like being an only child. Now that she can drive she doesn't mind it because she doesn't have to share.

How fun for Dash to get some time with just the two of you!

House hunting can be allot of work. I am sure that the Lord has the perfect home for your family. Sounds like you may have found a touch of heaven!

I have heard good things about Missouri. There are a ton of Samoans there as well. I am glad you had a great trip and found a little Provo-like area in the midwest. I have never been east of Colorado. I look forward to reading your moving post and the new adventures your family will have soon...Dash is too cute! Love the little stud!

I think it's in Independence where there is a large population of Poly's.

It always make my heart happy when my kids say they are so glad they are not an only child.
How awesome of a trip?! When my house is a mess (ok, when is my house ever clean?) I always am making excuses when people drop by. I just need to chill and let it go I guess. I love it when people don't feel the need to explain the mess away.

I am so glad you like St. Louis. We love it there. We are a bit partial though. You see....we were marrried in the St. Louis Temple. :) We love it. And I have 2 uncles that lived in St. Louis for about 4 or 5 years. They attented Logan Chiropractic College. Enjoy it....and I have found that folks in the mid west are like that. Just let you in and off you go. We love it here in Indiana.
