Labors shall produce...

We have been involved in many good things. Life has been a culmination of blessings and service and the two seem to go hand in hand. It has proven to be much like a garden. Hard work of constantly weeding and caring and then the blessings of the fruit.

I have dragged my children out blue berry picking. Where we picked 18 quarts! The smoothies that they drink and the pancakes and muffins that they eat are sweeter. There is a pride that comes from working and then reaping the benefits.
There is also a pride that comes from being able to grow something and then to eat it. Although we do not have a garden this year. I have labored in friends gardens. Some gardens were very easy to take care of and effortless to tend to. It was so nice! Some gardens were unattended and it was hard to weed it and bring it back to a state where it resembled a garden. But, through work and sweat and careful weeding it quickly began to resemble a garden again. I have to admit that I tend a garden like the latter.

We have a great man in our ward who gardens and offers his conditioned land to anyone who would like to garden. The key to NOT weeding is to plant your rows far enough apart so that you can put a tiller in between and to plant in excess so that when some of the bugs come chomping you will still have good produce also!
I once again bribed my children to come out and pick the veggies. We were out for 2 hours and reaped a good harvest. In a few days even more will be ready. I can't wait to prepare these and cook but some of the best ways to eat them are RAW!! (my favorite)
I wish I took a picture of the garden! It's beautiful. I will next time.
eggplant, corn, cabbage, potatoes, tomatoes, okra, squash, zucchini, parsley, sweet basil, green beans, and squash flowers! Mmmmmmmmmm.....

OOoohhhh YUM! It all looks so good! We gave our garden a "rest" this year and I am really missing all the fresh produce that I am used to picking!
This is a wonderful haul!!!

101 acres here on the farm and not one garden...shameful. Maybe next year I will take the time to plant one. The only thing I have ever planted is a cucumber plant. It did VERY well. I love a cucumber from the garden sliced with salt and pepper. YUM!

That is an AMAZING harvest!! Missouri obviously has better dirt for cucumbers than CT!! Oh I hope you do take pics of your garden I would love to see it! I am just so happy that the tomatoes don't seem to be getting any blight this year! We had our first res one and it was delish!!
