Pinewood Derby

The Mr and I are incredibly happy that this will be Dash's last pinewood derby! Goodness the anxiety that boys and men and mothers go through just to make sure that their boys are happy! I mean no boy wants their car to come in last place. So we teeter the fine line of finding balance into letting the boys do their own cars and guiding them so that they will actually soar down the race track. Dash has always designed his own car shape. This year our Bishop chose a night where all boys could come and he would use his tools to cut them out. THIS is such a blessing because I know parents who had to go to Home Depot or Lowe's to get this done. If they didn't have the tools at home to do it.  Dash also always paints his cars and places the wheels. It is up to the Mr. to properly balance his car and fine tune the wheels, etc.
Last year Dash won his pinewood derby but I believe while we were packing to move I had thrown his car away. The Derby was done slightly different then we are used to. Efficient but different. I guess when you live in NC and you have Nascar and Lowe's Motor Speedway less than an hour away from you, we might make things a bit more grande or Texas Style.
See that Yellow Blur? That's Dash's car. He painted it in Steeler colors.

There were only 4 prizes handed out this year. First place, Second and third and I think most inventive or creative. I liked that we handed out certificates for all participants and had judges rate, Best paint job, Most Energy Efficient, etc. It seemed to recognize all children's efforts and father's efforts. If their car wasn't necessarily the fastest it could definitely win in another category. All boys could feel proud of what they did. After all, they are only 8 to 11 years old. When they turn 12 you can give them the true hard facts! LOL, why because they have the priesthood. Perhaps, its just the mama in me. But, really some of these kids don't have active participating fathers or parents. So, let's build them up.

Look at my boys proud smile!
LOOK at these SCORES very carefully and LOOK how close they each were!

Yep, He took 3rd place. He's happy. We are happy.

AT the end of the meeting. You could do anything you wanted to the cars. You add all the weight you
needed. It looked like the kitchen was raided and every dad's tool box.  This ALSO is not a huge event here. Our ward we came from the dad's got so involved they thought about having an Elders Quorum Social so they could play.
Silly crazy boys who will grow up to be silly crazy men! I love 'em!

Pinewood derby really is a boys/man thing. I still have a few of these things to attend. Since Bubee just turned 8.

Oh my gosh...I loved the Pinewood Derby races we would have at church! It's funny because alot of the dads would do most of the work! It was almost a competition between them!! I love how everyone gets something for their effort! It is alot of work!!

And look at your son! He is sooo handsome!!
