Mardi Gras or Happy Fat Tuesday

I was so excited to celebrate Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday this year. I had it all decked out. I'm also really bummed that I didn't get any pictures of my table scape! GOSH! It was soo cute! But the memories are still there. We had fun we celebrated with Shrimp jambalya and home made bignet and a Kings Cake. We had loads of beads and even celebration masks and Sweetheart found the baby in the cake this year so she gets to make the Kings Cake next year. (She says, "NO")  It was also a busy day for us. Yadira came and spent her spring break with us but she had to fly out that afternoon! That evening we went and celebrated two friends birthday at Cheesecake Factory and then we finally celebrated our party a few days later.

Everyone wearing their masks
Gosh, I just love these girls

My boy is always up for so much fun!
So here is the quick low down on Mardi Gras. The festival actually starts like 45 days prior to Easter. However, Fat Tuesday is the basic EAT DRINK AND BE MERRY for tommorow we LENT. It's a celebration of eating richer fattier foods. Ash Wednesday being the day that people choose to give up a favorite food or drink or an addiction. Other than finding yourselves in the French quarter. Mardi Gras is well celebrated and a family activity around various cities in Louisiana! There are parades and floats that throw out beads and candy and stuffed animals.
Sweetheart won the prize of finding the baby in her peice of cake! Recipes will be placed on the recipe blog! So much fun!!

This looks like my kind of party - Love all the masks and beads and eating fattening and yummy food ...there are no words!!

This is something we have never celebrated - I am thinking out west we are kind of oblivious to Mardi Gras - maybe we shouldn't be!

I think you and me were the only ones to have a mardi gras party. I loved your decorations and food ideas.

My DIL copied masks from on line. the kids colored their own and cut them out. we attached dowels to them to hold.

they celebrate kings cake in france too.
