Latta Plantation

Sweetheart had a field trip to the Latta Plantation yesterday. I had volunteered to go as a chaperone. Starting the day after Thanksgiving I started coming down with a cold and was seriously ill saturday night, sunday morning and monday morning. I felt a bit better the day of the field trip and so wished that Mr. Incredible could have gone in my place. Dash stayed home from school, so Mr. Incredible was home anyway. However, the school has this new rule that you have to fill out this FBI list, and be approved through the district and your files run through the city, before you can volunteer. I had already had my work, papers and license sent through at the beginning of the year because I chaperoned for Dash's trip. I dragged myself to her field trip. I was so happy I got to go. I love Sweetheart's teacher and the students in her class are awesome. They love being with me and I love being with them. It was fun. I was a bit tired on the bus and thought I might get sick, being a long ride, stuffy air, and moving. They had studied all about the revolutionary war and there were given a live demonstration of the fire arms, a home built after the war and what toys, and uniforms and what people wore and baked and ate there. We also were given a demonstration of the type of musical instruments that soldiers carried on them. I found a new term that every soldier carried. They carried with them a sewing kit, complete with a thimble and scissors and it was called a HOUSEWIFE!!! hmmm..... men used to SEW and they had a HOUSEWIFE!!! Well, I think I need to get one of these. LOL It was worth the trip to see once, in a person's lifetime. However, the place to go is Sir William JOhnson's home, in my home town. This is the house that our family is in front of, all dressed in red in a previous blog. Indians had attacked the home and there are hatchet marks all along the banister, there is so much to see and experience there. I am going to drag my kids on tour the next time we head to NY. (I guess that is in December).
