Our busy uneventful Halloween

Every year at the beginning of October our kindness spider comes out for Halloween and each week we have a lesson on kindness, love and acceptance of others, and doing random acts of kindness for each other. The magic is fading quickly in my home. Having teenagers who were once amused by our little spider to now being worn down and knowing all the correct mundane answers. The younger two are still excited and loved doing the acts and received much enjoyment from dropping a fly into the bag.
I made 100's of flies and laminated them and put a magnet on the back of each. When you do something without being asked you feed the spider, when you are kind when you could have been angry you feed the spider. Come Halloween night on the 31st if the spider caught all her flies a big celebration is had at their favorite spot. Bruesters Ice cream parlor. Tomorrow night we will all be heading out to Bruesters for our favorite dish.
I will add pictures of our pumpkin carvings later.

I told her to look mean and tough. She just looks annoyed!

She did not like me trying to take a pic. Dash wouldn't even pose! Somebody please send the WAAAAmbulance because my children are no longer pliable and compliant to obeying every wish and command.

Beauty baby sat with a friend. Dash, chose to spend the night at his friend's house. They always throw a halloween party each year because they do not let their children trick or treat. Their parties are amazing. He came home with a pillow case full of candy. He had a costume but chose not to wear it. I bought him a huge bag of candy just for him of 110 pieces all chocolate. Sweetheart was not going to trick or treat but her and her family came to our house asking for her to go! She agreed but was not happy at all with me taking her pictures. can you tell?

I filled up 2 large plastic bowls of candy and brought it next door for my neighbor to pass out so that I could go to the football game. I left a sign on my door to go next door. Our candy was waiting for them. Last year we went to a halloween party and left the bowls out. I heard that the first group of kids who went dumped the bowls into their bags and left! I hate that!

It was senior night for Warrior. I went and took way too many pictures of football. They won 65 to 6. Complete blow out. Warrior had a great game.

The spider is such a great idea. I would like to share it with my daughter to use with her family.
what a great time of life you are in with your children. I remember running from one activity to the next afterschool. It is busy but I wouldn't trade the memories of those days for anything. Yeah, for Warrior I'm glad that he had a good game.

I love your spider. I am going to have to do that for next year.. I just hope I can remember.. What do you do for November & December? I wnat to start now on helping the kids to find things to be grateful for. But I don't have any creative ideas like your spider...
You are just such a great mom..
Man- they really kicked butt in football. Does Warrior have a scholarship anywhere?

What a great idea with the spider! I love it. It can be adapted to many different holidays (my wheels are a turnin!)

I love the costumes and congrats on the fball game! I'll be posting soon about my son's fball win too!

get your spider this year and put it away. WE have the spider that opens up.

What we do for NOvember is we have a big fat turkey on the fridge and they have to pluck its feathers. WE have tons of feathers and then when the turkey is plucked they get a prize! It's a good visual.
it's the gratitude turkey and we all get to gobble gobble later. LOL

EW! What's with some people's children??? Stealing candy? You're so kind to have bought candy...and your neighbor just as kind to pass it out.

i love the spider idea! I'l save that for granchildren in about 10 years :-) Sweetheart looks adorable even when she is "annoyed", but I know how it is with teenagers. She'll love you for these pictures when she is older.

I LOVE your creativity!! I will definitely start the spider thing.
Love the pictures of your daughter. Her outfit is great. It doesn't take long for them to become 'too old' for things. My daughter informed me that next year she wants to just pass out candy. Hoping that changes, but if not, it's her choice.
Congrats to Warrior with a great game.

WONDERFUL IDEA! Don't you hate it when they grow up and are too cool to do things they used to do! I miss those fun times!
Good idea about leaving the candy. Never thought about that. Course I live in a neighborhood of "non passer outers" of candy. I am a lone woman on my street!
