***FOLLOW UP of bumps and BRUISES***

Mr. Incredible comes home and he checks out Dash's hand. He concurrs that he thinks we should bring him in and have his hand looked at. He calls the urgent care down the road and tells them we do not have insurance and how much would an office visit and x-rays be. It was $65 for the visit and $35 for the office visit. Ok, great we will be up there in 10 minutes.

Where we live we have 2 urgent care centers 2 blocks away from each other. In fact, if you stand on the sidewalk of one you can see the other Urgent Care's sign. Mr. Incredible comes home with a bill that costs over $300.00!!!
THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS! That is the cost knowing there wasn't insurance. Apparently, he went to the WRONG urgent care. The one that quoted him around $100 was the OTHER one! WEll FREAKIN' A!! (By the way what does A stand for)

I'm so sick I think I'm going to throw up. So, now if we pay the premium from his company which is like $300 or more. OH well, THREE HUNDRED dollars is the cost that it took to have peace of mind that Dash's hand just has a bad sprain. I would have hated if we gambled and it was broken. It just sucks, you know! Yeah, I said the S word, because it does SUCK!

So sorry for the cost. In Utah you can fill out a form and if you meet the qualificationsm the medical care is almost free. I took a sister in our area to see the doctor who was extremely low income and they treated her for free.
You must tell them before hand. I don't know if your area has the same type of program.
I am glad his hand will be healed and ready for baseball!

Crap! that bites!! and yes I said crap, because we have insurence and our babies inhalent tubes are 20 for 300.00, and we have to pay 90.00 that lasts 4 days... Crap!

Good thing it is just a bad sprain, but that is almost worse than it being broken, glad you went in !!!

That really stinks. Make sure you call them and work something out to let htem know you DO not have insurance. I hope they give you a better discount.

We have insurance, but we have to pay the deductibles, and they are just as much.. and when it rains it pours... mY kids have been way sick this year!

I'm sorry! sometimes there isn't a better word than what you used.

peace of mind is getting more expensive all the time!

Glad it's only a sprain.

It's too bad the only alternative is socialized medicine!

I am glad that you didn't have to tack on another $500 for a cast! :)

HOLY FREAKIN CRAP! I had no idea!!! NEVER ever would I use that word. Now, I can't say Freakin because I do not want it in place of the other, but I say CRAP and we all know I mean the it word. So, should I just say what I mean and mean what I say?? LOL

Ugh! I think this is a time when use of the phrase 'sucks' is more than fully justified!

We aren't struggling with unemployment but we have one of those awful high-deductable health plans. Even though we set aside enough money for the deductable there seems to be a way for us to get screwed whenever we dare use the stupid policy so we are constantly having to decide if it's worth getting it checked out or not. It's frequently not but what choice do you have? Sorry!

It's like saying you have to pay 300 bucks for peace of mind. thanks goodness it was just a sprain although I've heard sometimes those hurt worse than a break...but still ouch to the ole pocketbook! Looks like beans and rice for dinner this week!

That REALLY sucks!! Sorry you had to shell out so much for a little peace of mind. I suppose it's worth it though. You'd be lying awake at night wondering if you should have him checked out if you didn't. Glad it wasn't anything worse.

We've been in the same situation. I know how crappy that is! Did he pay the bill or not? If not, you can call and say dh is lost his job and can they work with you on payment. My friend did that and they cut the bill in half. UGH still!

glad it's not broken because then it'd require all those darn follow up visits. My kids can't play sports till we are covered. Too many rebreaks going on with one kid and the others...well I can't take any chances. Watch, now they'll twist their ankle running out to get the mail or something. lol!

that worse than sucks girl!! So sorry - bright side - no broken bones!

Call them and explain out of work, no insurance and what can they do for you. I know here that if you call often the bill can be negotiated to half or less in most cases. Put your stern voice on and well...don't give up keep pushing even if you have to go higher up and higher up the chain to get someone to lower the cost for you.

BTW - I don't often comment but I so love reading your blog!

Holy Hannah! That's a big medical bill to swallow! We're going through the sucky (yes, I did say the "s" word) insurance stuff right now, too. Ewww, it's an evil necessity. I hate it. I'm glad his hand is okay, tho!
