He is now in California. A small town called Gridley. This is the hometown where the Bishop in California was shot and killed a few months ago. He said that that Bishop and his wife were from Gridley and grew up there and both his parents and her parents still are there.
We have always seen him as a leader and a spiritual kid but his letters home have astounded me. He has grown so much, he has matured so and I fear that if we don't keep up our pace with doing all we can, we will be left behind.
He loves loves all the letters he is receiving and says to keep sending them! He has already had very special experiences and stories of faith and has done amazing things that have shocked his companion and has been told he isn't like the typical greenies and those in his mission are treating him like a "king" Oh no, because we all know how his dad likes to be called King. But, the missionaries serve him first and wait! I'm not sure that is a king trait, or they just want to know its safe for consumption! Despite my display of pride and excitement his letters are quite humble and inspiring. I love being his mother and being a missionary mom. Our family can already feel the special blessings of having a child serve.
He always leaves me in tears as he professes his endearing love for us, his gratitude that we raised him the way we did and for Mr. Incredible teaching him so much in the gospel and life. It just tugs at my heart strings! First day out, first discussion and he committed someone to baptism! LOL,
Anyway, to see a glimpse of his first day and new greenies with him please click his mission link which can be found here. He is standing next to his mission President! He is as big as his mission president and loves him and says Sister Pendleton reminds him of a lady in our ward, in Missouri.
I have pics but I can't get them to load.

I am delighted to read that all is well with your missionary. He is doing so well, because you raised him well. He is friendly, because you are. I really believe at times our children are true reflections of us.
i love gridley! i have memories of going with my family to visit my parents friends, the Jenkins!! Good people and a great place to start!! he's in good hands, that's for sure!
how sweet and tender!
What an amazing young man he is, and what a huge blessing to your family and those around him.
We too have gotten some sweet letters from the boy! I love it-such a good example for my boys.
What a great kid! I hear missions really do wonders for these young men in turning them into men. Their growth spiritually is astounding.
Unfortunately my 18 1/2 year old just informed us in September that he doesn't want to serve a mission. He says he feels inadequate. He is enlisting in the Air Force this week. A mama's got to be proud of that, too...
I love missionaries♥
I'm so proud of him.wonderful example.
What an example! I am so happy for him! This will be the best 2 years of his life!
